Central Penn Karate Academy
The Swatara Township Karate Academy is the oldest school within the Central Penn Karate Academy family. This was the original school that was established by Sensei Clark in 1976 and then handed over to Sensei Fogleman in 1978. This was when the school became open to the public and so began the community outreaching programs.
The school’s mission is to teach students: self-defense, body control, persistence, focus, discipline, memory, goal setting, respect, and confidence in oneself.
Classes were taught by various black belts throughout the decades, bringing many different variations to the school – but the mission has always remained the same. During COVID times, the classes did not stop – we just went virtual.
Since classes have been allowed in-person, the community outreach effort has blossomed, as traditions set by Sensei Fogleman has continued. The school partners with the Swatara Township Police department to host Women’s Self-Defense seminars, in conjunction with the District Attorney’s office, and other women’s advocacy groups.
Classes for Swatara Township Karate Academy are held Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm, at the Swatara Township Municipal building.
